    Description

The book "The Riddle of the Rhine, Chemical Strategy in Peace and War" by Victor Lefebure, published in 1923 by The Chemical Foundation, Inc., New York.  Hardbound, 182 pages, in very good slightly used condition with a solid spine and no loose pages, only with names in ink on the inside cover.  "An account of the critical struggle for power and for the decisive war initiative.
The campaign fostered by the great Rhine factories, and the pressing problems which they represent.  A matter of pre-eminent public interest concerning the sincerity of disarmanent, the future of warfare, and the stability of peace."  This is a thorough recount of the poison gas warfare, why the Allies were so unaware and unprepared for the initial German attacks, and how the German chemical industry conducted extensive pre-war activity that limited the Allies ability to respond once the attacks had begun.  A very good discussion of an aspect of WWI that I knew very little about.
